Interesting timing. I have a 2000 9-3SE with over 95k miles on it that I have been putting money into every month at a rate that is making me think I should just get a new car.

It was driving fine, then my wife (she is the one who drives it the most, I walk to my office) pulled into our garage and pulled into a spot and mid turn it stopped responding to the gas and she had to "put a lot of weight on the pedal" to get it to do anything and "some weird symbol light thingies" came on the dash.

Great.

I went out about an hour or two later and started it up, sure enough, the transmission exclamation point light is on, as is the check engine light - no message on the SID.

This car is an automatic.

It started fine, and I backed it up fine, drove up one level in the garage and then back down, all fine.

The manual seems to indicate that this is the Limp Home mode. Just for kicks I took off the gas cap and put it back on, in the dim hope that the check engine light was just due to that, but no.

If it is "just" $300, then no big deal - but if it is a new transmission, I'm just going to drive to the dealer and hand it in and get something new(er).
