Hi Brian,
I have a similar issue on my 1997 900SET. See the link below to my previous thread, and perhaps try to wade through the many other posts when doing a search.
Al at Impact tried it all, and I have to believe him. I have now been driving around with this for more than a year and a half. Basically, as my SID still works, I just have to be sure I reset the miles/trip counter. Yes, I will admit I have run out a few times, but it was me trying to push it. I just have to stay under 360 miles per tank, and I have been okay.
I will try to swap out my ECU now that summer is here. I am trying to fix my brakes first, but after, I can get back to wrenching on my car, now that other personal priorities are past. Then, if that doesn't work, I guess I will try the dealer, but try to have them assure me they won't charge me 10+ hours diagnostic labour if that is how long it takes (that's what cumulatively Al tried).
If you find anything, please be sure to come back and let us know. Myself, as well as several others are extremely curious and interested in getting a resolution. Thanks and good luck.
Sean
