Exhaust flex pipe question

I have a '95 900 convertible. The exhaust flex pipe is shot. Found a 2 month old Maremont flex pipe on ebay and purchased for $20. Bought new clamps from NAPA. I can not get the clamps to tighten the joints enough to make a seal. With the bolts fully tightened the flex pipe continues to slide in the clamp.
Any common experiences? Should I just buy a new flex pipe at eeuropeparts or could it be bad clamps? Any help is appreciated. My 1 hour job is turning into a weekend project. Thanks
