Joe,
We have found the OEM turbocharger capable of supporting 230 BHP with efficiency but an upgrade at this stage or greater (bhp) would benefit from use of a more efficient compressor. The 2.3 liter 9000 200 bhp version T25 has a slight advantage with regards to efficiency and could be used after additional modifications such as engine management, exhaust system, intake, etc. These turbochargers can work effectively towards 250+ BHP. The Mitsubishi TD04 (used on Viggen and Aero after 1999) would be an effective turbocharger if seeking the 250+ bhp ranges and these can produce over 275+ bhp. The T25/28 hybrid is an ideal candidate for the 275+ bhp ranges and these are also less restrictive at the turbine assembly allowing for mid range/top end engine rpm performance.
As Dean mentions, installing any turbocharger upgrade by itself will not create any provisions in engine bhp but if planning certain additional engine power goals, the turbocharger upgrade would be a substantial improvement via a more efficient charge (cooler charge).
Best Regards,
GaryK at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
