CEL mystery solved (mostly) Posted by Todd [Email] (#958) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Todd) on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 09:18:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 1996 900 SET has been throwing numerous CEL codes (455, 1171, 132, 138, etc.) over the last couple of months. It has also been hesitating during acceleration intermittently. I cleaned the IAC, the purge valve and the throttle body housing and replaced the air filter. That seemed to make it run a little better, but the CEL would still come on every other day or so.
I was looking at the hose from the throttle body to the purge valve (it's the hard plastic hose that's covered in rubber) and noticed that the original spring clamps were losing their tension and the connections were a little loose. I replaced them with the classic screw-type clamps (5 for $1) and made sure the hoses were tightly secured. After that fix the CEL immediately stopped! Hope that's helpful!
It's been about 1 month and no problems...except one strange one.
Twice in a row I have taken the car to the car wash (touchless automated setup) and when I get back in the car the CEL is on! Both times it's showing CEL codes 132 and 138. I'm wondering if the undercarriage is getting sprayed with soapy water during the wash and getting the O2 sensors wet and triggering the code.
Thanks!
Todd
