96 900SET 'vert. Automatic
Problem began last week with the car simply not starting. Plenty of electrical power, but no click, no crank. I finally realized that it would crank in neutral. This week it (seems like the same problem) has gotten worse, and the car will not go into Park at all. The shifter handle locks into place (in park), but the car is still in reverse. So it seems obvious that the first problem was the shifter interlock doing it's job, (car wasn't (quite) in park, interlock won't allow starter to crank) but now what?
I seached the board here and at first I thought it sounded like the range switch, but if I understand correctly the range switch is only telling the TCU what position the shifter is in - the cable linkage is what actually puts the car in park, and it isn't going in. Also, I have not had any dash lights come on, and the car has never gone into "limp home" mode.
I found a service bulletin about ajusting the shifter cable at AllData, and I performed the ajustment to no avail. Anyone got any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Chip
