problem was, all the wire covers were literally worn off, the only one I could ID was a short piece of green. And, using a two prong resistor like shown in the picture, I had an extra wire.

Far as I figure, the connector with a single wire goes into one end of the resistor. regarding the two wire connector, the black wire goes into one port of the fan motor assembly (had to solder in new wire)

the second wire, what would be the original "green" one which in the old resistor went into and out of the resistor (giving an extra wire), this time goes from the two wire connector, splices with a wire (a) coming out of the fan motor and (b) coming out of the resistor.

Sound right, anyone?
