Some of the terms you blokes on the other side of the pond use really confuse me. ;-) It started with bonnets (hoods), dipped beams (low-beams?), city lights(parking light???), boots(hatches/trunks?), off-side(passenger side?), and now counter shafts. I'm guessing you're referring to the left and right drive axles. If so, there is no real practical way to lubricate them periodically, unless you happen to have the front suspension apart for some other reason. In that case you could pull the axle, cut one of the cv boot bands on each joint, re-pack with grease and put on a new band. My 1995 900S with 155,000 miles still has the original joints and has never been lubed, so 70,000km seems unusual for a failure. I've read that one of the inner drivers tends to dry out first due to the close proximity of the exhaust pipe.
