wifes '01 SE 100,000 miles...blew head gasket...I removed head and it's terribly sludged up. I changed oil regularly 3-4k. My hot rod buddy tells me I should disconnect the transmission yank the dirty thing out and clean it out, put a new timing chain, guides and gears on it, all new seals, reinstall and quit whining that it only made it to 100k. The '89 has nearly 300k and only basic maintenance so...thoughts or suggestions...upon careful inspection one guide is cracked...The machine shop does not recommend valve job based on condition, said he's seen worse for sludge and they shaved 3 thousands off to make it flat again...any suggestions here...I am willing to pull the engine, being a DYI person, have tools and engine hoist. Will I create a worse problem by trying to clean it out...any help or suggestions please.
