The good thing is that the chain cannot fall off the crank due to a catch bracket under there.
When I remove and install cylinder heads, I show as much of the chain as possible down into the engine (without spreading the loose chain guide) so that I can lift the head easier, especially when putting it back on.
So sometimes I need to give the crank a light tug to work out the kink in chain to get it back up.
