i've been plagued by this problem this year. it started in february and went on through most of march, then stopped for 6 months, as summer arrived here in CT.
started happening again in september when we had a rather cold and very rainy day.
- Saab dealership was fantastically UNhelpful. They claimed at first it was the battery. They replaced it and insisted it was good as new. So I end up on the phone with them the very next day, standing before my dead saab, and they tell me "we've got no codes. there's nothing wrong with your car."
- had an indie mechanic look at it....he found a TSB (#331-2348) about loose connections at the starter, and he thought that the wires had been crudded up w/ road salt. this did seem to fix the problem. but 3 weeks later, same thing...
- finally took it to http://www.saabmastertech.com a month ago. he, like everyone else, could not reproduce the problem, but did say he's seen it and successfully fixed it twice before. He replaced the Neutral Safety Switch, also known as (i didn't know this...) the Transmission Range Switch. THIS appears to have fixed the problem...have NOT had this problem since.
------------
Now I just have to figure out why it's cranking but won't start...that just happened today for the first time. It started, stalled immediately, and hasn't turned over since.
