It can certainly be other things too, but it is so common with getting the cam timing off one tooth so when someone is having an issue right after a head gasket job, it a good place to check.
But if you already knew about the traps and especially studied the cam timing before and compared to the picture and such, it is less likely to be a cam timing issue if you are absolutely sure that both cams are a tidbit behind the mark on cam cap.
