Fixed with new thermostat

A new thermostat (plus a new top radiator hose) fixed the CEL/low water temp problem for me.
I drained the coolant via the radiator drain plug. I got a spanner on it from above, standing in front of the car and leaning over, turning one flat at a time. The coolant flowed when I took the expansion tank cap off. A length of garden hose attached to the plug took the coolant to a bowl. I removed the bracket which holds the three electric plugs (two bolts), removed the bracket which holds the water pipe below the housing (two bolts). The thermostat cover could then be unbolted (two bolts).
With new (89 deg C) thermostat The temperature now rises fairly quickly to slightly above half way, like it used to, and stays there.
