I re-use these nuts all the time with no problems. An easy and non-destructive way to get the ball joint out is to smack the boss where the ball joint stud goes thru with a ball peen hammer. You want to give it a good sharp few hits. Be careful not to hit the ball joints threads. After you have done this you will need to pry the lower control arm down (anti-sway bar tension holds the ball joint up. Now you should be able to get the ball joint down out of the steering knuckle.
