Timing chain/tensioner question (a bit long)

Yesterday I replaced the upper serp belt pulley (it basically exploded) and the tensioner pulley and did a short belt mod. Since I had it apart I pulled the tensioner according to Anders post (thanks!) to measure the extension of the tensioner. It was right at 15 mm. I saw on Anders post with the pictures that the limit is 11 mm except for the B205/235 engines which is 15 mm. How do I tell which engine I have?
The tensioner has more extension left, the engine is a little noisy in the timing chain area but definitely not too loud.
I've done a roll in on a 99 before that didn't really change the noise at all, it was probably more due to worn guides. So if I do something similar to what I've read here, remove the balance chain and roll in a new timing chain, does that make a lot of sense without replacing the guides? (which I assume means removing the engine).
