Here's my story. A long time ago I had the neutral-sensor-failure-to-start problem, and solved it with a switched wire directly to the starter. Sometimes when the car failed to turn over, I'd hit my bypass switch and be on my way.
Last week, Mice made a nest on top of my DI with stuffing apparently from inside my firewall. I threw it away. Couple days later, dead battery. Opened hood to jumpstart and found the mice rebuilt the nest. I threw it away but could not get the car to hold a good charge from a jump, and had to use a strong charger. The battery is ok, good terminal connections.
Now I turn on ignition, dash lights up, heater blower kicks on, headlights light, but starter won't respond to the ignition (as it often wouldn't when hot [but now it's cold]). So I hit my bypass switch, and the engine cranks cranks cranks but won't start. I take out the DI and put all the plugs in; ignition on, hit the starter, ground the plugs, NO SPARK. I tried getting some voltmeter readings from the DI wire harness, and got some odd 3V readings, and no spikes or wobble when trying to start.
But before I run out for a new $400 DI, the plugs come out bone dry after trying to start a few times; and I don't smell gas in the plug holes. Don't hear a fuel pump buzz either.
Have the mice chewed through some insulation? Mice could be a coincidence. I need some genius insight like I've seen here before.
I'll gladly install a switch to hotwire the ignition if anyone can guide me to the right wires. Any ideas?
