ICE or ignition lock? Please help...

Hi all,
just came home from the SAAB mech after a few Tech-II checks on my ICE since most of the interior features had gone bad all of a sudden 2 weeks ago (interior lights won't go out, no rear & mirror defrosters, no hi beams, no turn/hazard signals, permanent "door open" warning light, intermittant "bad bulb" light, low coolant temp reading asf.). Mech told me the ICE is defective and has to be replaced... BUT:
After clearing all the stored fault codes & rechecking, the ICE reported a large number of faults like "relay bla short-circuit", "switch bla short-circuit", "cable bla short-circuit"... which all in all would basically mean that my entire dash cabling should have burst into flames meanwhile (which is definitely not the case, I checked that).
Now, the very first ICE error message logged was something like "No 15+ detected when 30+ present" (or vice versa, can't recall, sorry)... in my humble opinion, this could point to a defective ignition lock. Am I right?
From what I have read on this board, ignition lock failures are much more frequent than ICE blackouts... what's your opinion on this? Could a fault like the one above result in the symptoms described? How should I go about checking the ignition lock (or any relevant relays in the path)? No Haynes manual on the 900 available here... :-/
The car is a '93 900NG, 2.0litres non-turbo, B204I engine.
Thanks a bunch in advance,
-Wolfgang
