So like the subject says, I'm starting to experience this dreaded "reverse is grinding" problem.
I have an 02 - 93 SE with 118K miles on it.
I can get in and out of reverse with NO problem when the car is cold, but a 30 mile drive to work (with some bumper to bumper traffic) and it takes some effort. I've tried the "put it in first" technique, but that doesn't seem to help (do I need to leave it there for a few seconds?), I've also tried the "in neutral, put the clutch to the floor and let it pop back up" technique and that didn't seem to help either.
The dealer is trying to strong arm me into getting a whole new transmission. They're insisting that they looked at the linkage and it's not bent or otherwise damaged. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with spending $3300 on fixing a car I JUST spent $2100 fixing over the summer (and on a car neither of us love and has been nothing but a money pit).
Any suggestions? What else might it be? If the general consensus is that it's truly the linkage, how do I convince them to look again or fix it?
I'm guessing I should take it to another Saab dealership and see what they have to say.
On a side note, on this last trip to the dealership, they were unable to open the air box assembly and had to drill out the bolts. They kept the car over night as they didn't have the replacement bolts in stock. After picking up the car, I drove home and then opened the hood and noticed that they had drilled out the bolts, but didn't replace them with anything. And they're telling me my linkage is fine? I'm having a trust issue with them I guess, so I'm looking forward to suggestions to the above series of questions.
