I have found that the oil-soaked K&N filters can cause the MAF to malfunction. If you must use one, at least wipe it down thoroughly before installing it, especially if you drive hard ... most people claim a performance gain because they are replacing an already-dirty filter with a brand new one ... OE is fine for me, and it clears up any breathing problems.
Exhaust is another story ... unless your current exhaust is rotted, replacing it will only give your imagination a horsepower boost. if you insist, GS and PFS both have fairly priced systems that will fit the 2.3NA, and i'll even go so far as to say that the dual exit from PFS will look pretty dope...
In the end, just baby the car, with regular service intervals, and maybe a fuel system cleaning regimen, and it will treat you right for a long time to come...
