The clutch internals are consumable wear items, similar to brake pads. CPO cars get their brakes inspected, with rotors and/or pads replaced if necessary (I believe that a CPO car has to have 60% of the pad material remaining). After you take delivery, the dealer will never again replace those pads under warranty. They will, however, work on the brakes if for example you have some sort of issue with the attachment hardware, caliper internals, brake lines, or master cylinder. I'm not sure if there are minimum thickness requirements for clutch parts. It would seem unlikely due to the fact that the dealer would have to remove the transmission and clutch assembly of any CPO car that had a manual gearbox in order to inspect clutch linings, friction discs, etc.....not very cost effective for the dealer. The rattling you're hearing could be a throwout bearing and the stiffness you're feeling could have something to do with the clutch slave cylinder.....both covered under warranty. But a WORN clutch disc will also exhibit a stiff clutch pedal and would most likely not be covered under warranty. Ultimately, the decision of how much of a dent this whole thing is going to make in your checkbook rests with the dealer. Some dealers will dig into your car and word their work order in such a way that they'll get reimbursed by GM......others don't care. My dealer has treated me extremely well over the years concerning warranty issues and I'm sure others on the board have had equally positive experiences. Then again, some will tell you of the horror stories they've experienced at a particular dealer. Good luck.
