Unless it's all constant-speed highway driving, change at 5000 miles. The manual says 10,000 for "normal" driving, or 5000 for "severe". It then goes on to define "severe" as basically anything any normal driver would encounter.
If you bring the car to a jiffy place, make sure they use at least a semi-synthetic (this is specified in your manual). Most Jiffy-type places will put in the cheapest bulk stuff they can find, and you'll be left with fried gunk in your turbo.
It's pretty easy to change the oil on these cars yourself. If you do, or if you pick out your own oil to bring to a mechanic, make sure you use a -30 or -40 wt oil. 0W- or 5W- if you're in the North, 10W- is ok in the South. Results on bobistheoilguy.com seem to show that Mobil1 Turbo-Diesel-Truck 5W-40 is one of the best oils you can use in this engine. See Eiron's results here:

You should be able to get it at AutoZone, Wal-Mart, VIP, or a few other places.
