The '99 is less likely to have the sludge problem--that started after the changes for the 2000 model year.
On the '00s, I don't have a definitive answer on how to check for sludge. It's easy to check for the PCV #6, though. Compare it to the picture Anders took (link below). If you see the hoses and the T connection from the photo, it has #6.
On both the '99 and the '00, check the condition of the larger hose from the PCV nipple in the valve cover. On the '99s these wear out and crack--not a big deal, but replacing it will make the system work better and reduce the smell of exhaust in the car. On the '00, if the hoses are old and the PCV system is an old version, this hose will decay and disintegrate. It's a good sign that the PCV system isn't doing it's job well.
