Convertible Top Removal...help!

Well, I may have fouled this one up.
I have a 1996 900SE 2.0L Turbo Convertible, new to me with 100,000 miles. The tonneau motor bracket was bent, but gear teeth intact. It had been worked on by someone in the past as the reinforcement bracket was installed. However, one of the circlips (post retainer ring) came off at some point, the hinge pin slipped down enough to allow the bracket to bend a little. So, I pulled it out yesterday, bent it back, installed new retainer rings and put it back in the car.
Stupid me, I forgot to pull the battery out of the car. Now, the ECU/TSAS knows that the motor's been pulled out, and now it insists on being reprogrammed BEFORE it will move. Here's the issue.
I know that the reprogramming is standard procedure when work has been done on the motors. BUT, I need to remove the soft top to do some minor repairs. Pulling off the top will ALSO require the TSAS to be reprogrammed. I don't want to have to pay to have this done twice. All I need is for the top to be lowered enough to get the soft top off.
Is there a work around here?
While I'm at it, has anyone restitched their own soft top?
Thanks.
