I just bought my first proper Saab two weeks ago, a 99 Saab 9-3 with 143k on it. Excellent body, no rust, strong engine. Needed clutch and suspension work. Anyway, stupidly I didn't look under the carpet in the trunk until I got it home. It was soaked and the tire, jack and hardwear around the tire were all covered with a fine dew. The underside of the trunck carpet reeks of mold, the previous owner had discreetly placed an air freshener in the spare. So I emptied out the spare tire well, dried everything off, left the hatch open in the sun for an afternoon, bleached the moldier parts and put it all back together. After 24hrs, dry with no rain, I opened it back up and voila, everything is dew covered again. When I emptied the trunk out I discovered a circle of rubber plugs that seem to be water evacuation holes under the spare. Some of the rubber was cracked, so I gaffer-taped the cracked plugs, thinking maybe the dew was from overnight humdity rising off the asphalt under the car and setling in the trunk. But now clearly either that is not the case or there is another entry for this humidity. So...anyone with similar experiences, ideas, solutions? Thanks in advance!
