After 14 hours labor (plus 10 more figuring out how to remove a part and/or asking this bb for help- Thanks Swedecar, Nahum Cook and others) and $40 worth of new tools/supplies <gotta love them>, I got the head off my 2000 9-3 that was having a severe misfire, 0 compression on cylinder 1.

Turn the head over and see an exhaust valve on No. 1 cylinder stuck open. OK, bent valve I say.... Look again, and its not stuck open, but stuck in the cylinder head about 3/4 from the valve. Apparently, it snapped off, dropped down and was pounded into the cylinder head. (I can't find the camera, so no picture).

Question(s): What can I do about the head- is it worthwhile to bring it to a machine shop and see if the valve can be replaced? Or send it off to someone to rebuild the head?

Testing the piston? It has a nice imprint of the valve, but does not look cracked or damaged. Cylinder walls are not scored (although the back of the top/back lip of cylinder almost looks angled/not quite at a 90 degree angle to the top of the block, maybe flaring out to 85 degrees a 1/4 inch from the top.

Rings look OK- can I test them by pouring oil in and seeing if it leaks down to through the rings? That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head, no pun intended.

Any ideas? Comments? Warnings?
Thanks.
