If you think it's the fuel pump, carry a VOM with you. When and if the car won't start, disconnect the power connector to the pump and measure the resistance (in ohms)of the fuel pump motor. When the car finally starts again, stop it and measure the resistance again. If the second reading is lower, the pump has a bad spot in it. I had a fuel pump replaced on a pickup truck and it refused to start about a week later. You might also measure the voltage at the connector to the pump to make sure voltage is present when it won't start... Ron
