The photo from dips site that you put up VT is the pitman arm puller from autozone that I have. The only difference between the ball joint puller and the pitman arm puller is the size. The ball joint puller is to small to fit around the strut. Learned that the hard way and had to put it back together to run back upto autozone.
My guess would be that your 1000 dollar quote was obvisouly the parts+markup+labor to install it all and then the alignment was probably included in there......still outrageous though.
