I finally got it out after wedging a 3/8" extension piece in and turning it at just such an angle. Besides the bottom were I destroyed it, it's not really scored.
Before I install a new one, should I do anything to the cylinder it sits in. Should I try to clean it with something mildly abrasive or just wipe it clean with some paper towels.
I hadn't read about these valves going bad and needing to be replaced as a matter of routine maintenance but could that be it.
Sorry to invoke you Anders but I could use some professional advise on this.
