My 1995 900SE Convertible just passed 150,000 miles. I bought the car with about 38,000 miles on it from Carmax back in 2000 and my wife used (abused) it for the next 100,000 miles. Recently I bought her a new 2007 Saab Convertible and now I use the 95 convertible. Here are my areas of concern at this mileage:

The struts/shocks - mine we toast at 150k and I just recently spent about $1200 installing Bilstein touring struts/shocks front and rear with new Saab genuine strut mounts and all new related hardware. All I can say is wow - what a difference.

The fuel pump is a issue with many since these tend to go bad in the 120k - 160k range and the damn thing is in the tank - I spent about $500 on this replacement.

I have had zero issues with the alternator, air conditioner, starter, or water pump -- but have had to replace the serpentine belt tensioner once and a few other pulleys in the mix twice (thy tend to fry every 50k miles).

The big "defect" with these cars is that over time, as the clutch wears and stiffens up, it creates more pressure on the self adjustable cable and tends to snap these. I replaced mine more than once as the clutch now has over 90,000 miles on it. I now oil the clutch mechanism from the top of the bell housing and this has made quite a difference.

Since I work from home, park the car in the garage, and use it as my third car, I am going to fully rebuild it over time. When I had my fuel pump replaced I had my independent Saab tech pull the pan and check the oil pick-up tube (these can clog due to oil abuse), clean the tube, and replace the rubber washers. He told me mine was the cleanest he has seen which I attribute to using synthetic oil since I bought the car and changing it every 5000 miles.

My car runs great at 150,000 miles and I have had it going 90 mph down the expressway with no issues. The key to these cars is maintenance. I am told the 900 new generation engines and trans are quite bullet-proof and much better than the later 9-3 Saabs which had a weaker engine with gelling issues. I intend to have my 95 900SE around for the next 20 years.
