This is something of a follow up to my question from last night; thanks for the input.

I get a puff of blue smoke on cold starts, not every time and they last fewer than ten seconds - very common, I know.

If it is turbo seals, how long can I make it before I will have to replace the turbo? Can I drive it in this condition for a while, or will I do serious damage to the cat?

In January of this year at 64K miles the water pump was replaced. At this time they found the PCV valve stuck closed. The tech found oil all over the throttle body and manifold. They replaced the PCV valve and cleaned up the oil. It is listed as "HOSECRANKVNTR719" on the invoice. Is it safe to assume that I have the latest PCV valve fix? Could this lead to the puff of blue smoke at cold starts? Could this lead to permanent damage if the PCV valve was stuck closed for a while? The dealer sees the car less than every 5K miles; I would think they would have noticed earlier if it was a long standing problem.

In October of 2005 at 49K miles the cat was replaced under warranty. Is it likely that this was a result of a long term oil burning issue?

This is a one owner 2001 9-3S, 65K miles - all highway, 5sp. I have every service record; the owner was obviously very anal retentive and drove the car very lightly. I know that Garret turbos are fragile, but is it wishful thinking to hope that the morning puff is all PCV and not bad turbo seals? The car hasn’t been driven hard, and all of the highway miles likely mean that the turbo wasn’t spooled up all that often.

Sorry for the rambling post, please give me your thoughts.

Thanks for your help.
