The cat will likely paw the food and get a paw or it's nose injured. You may cause a broken bone. Those traps are designed to break a mouse's back - imagine what that will do to a cat paw.

Just start chasing it away. Cat's like peace and quiet. If you chase it off enough times then it won't come back.
