Parking brake handle question

Hello. I have a 1997 900s, 5-speed. non-turbo, 109K miles. I always use my parking brake when I shut off the engine (since it's a manual trans). For the last couple of weeks, i've noticed than when starting the car and releasing the parking brake, there is about 3 inches of play in the parking brake lever when releasing the parking brake. After about 1-2 minutes of driving, the excess play is gone and the lever is back to normal (no play at all). Is this something I should be concerned about? The brakes are fine otherwise.
Thanks,
Mike.
