Here are some things off the top of my head:
1. Check the SID for missing pixels.
2. Check to see if the antenna goes up and down smoothly.
3. Check to see if the A/C blows cold air.
4. Check to see that the DI cassette is red, not black, if it's the 2.0 engine.
5. Look at the condition of the serpentine belt. You might take a flash light with you for this.
6. Check the tires for abnormal wear.
7. Check to make sure you get the radio code which is needed when the battery is disconnected.
8. There are 2 types of clutch cables - auto-adjusting OEM and manual-adjusting aftermarket. I prefer the OEM, but that's just me.
9. Get a list of what's been replaced - fuel pump, alternator, starter, clutch, idler pulleys, water pump, etc. If nothing has been replaced, you can expect to have to do that in the next year or two.
10. When you turn on the key, check to see if all the instrument cluster lights light-up. You can use the Owners Manual to see all the lights.
11. Start the engine and check for CELs.
12. Take a test drive and see if the car pulls or goes straight.
13. Test to see if the brakes squeak or pull to the side.
14. Check the emergency brake to see if will hold the car on a hill.
15. See how the transmission shifts.
16. Check to see how much force is required to operate the clutch. If it's hard, the clutch is getting old and might be the reason that the clutch cable broke.
17. Check to see if the car shakes at highway speed. If it does, it may be bent wheels or out of balance tires.
18. Check the body for rust and repair.
19. Check the trunk to see if it's wet.
20. Check the moon roof for smooth operation.
You might also consider having an Indy checkout the car.
Good luck and let us know how you make out with the car... Ron
