I drive a 95 NG900 SE Convertible and love it (my third 900, but my first NG). The other day, another driver told me that my brake lights were not working, which I verified once I got home. Cops around here are vicious, so I'm pretty sure they haven't been out for too long!

Having owned two classic Saabs and even an MG, I was pretty confident about my troubleshooting skills. But this one has me stumped.

I checked Fuse 12, and it's fine. I checked the brake pedal switch with a multimeter, and it seems to be working correctly. I get 12 volts at the leads going into that switch, which I assume is normal. So far so good.

Now the confusing parts:

* The SID doesn't inform me about any problem, as it has in the past when a bulb's burned out for example.

* I don't see 12 volts across the the leads for Fuse 12, regardless of whether the brakes are pressed or not. Should I?

* I checked a couple of the brake light bulbs, and they were all OK. Sockets seemed fine as well (no corrosion)

* I noticed that the reverse lights are also out. Coincidence?

My theories are that there is a bad ground somewhere or perhaps there's a fuse or relay somewhere in the circuit that's just not obvious. I checked through some old postings and they mentioned that the NG900 hatchback has a brown ground wire that sometimes gets corroded. I pulled back the carpet in the trunk of my convertible and I can't see any brown ground wires anywhere.

I've spent nearly as much time searching through this forum today as I did with a voltmeter yesterday. Anyone got any ideas? I'm at my wits' end!
