A used core will not work unless it is a newer replaced evap core which has already been patched in. Look for the tube patch kit. This is because there is no way to remove the original core without cutting the tubes which run through the firewall.
It is difficult to actually see the evap core while it is installed. Pretty much if you have a leak you cannot trace from the compressor, lines, or condenser, its probably your evap.
