Its common for the fluid warning to go off because the pads are worn thin. The pistons extend; drawing fluid into the caliper. I imagine the size of the fluid reservoir was chosen with that in mind.
This is a good excuse to pull the rear wheels too. Those pads often get stuck in the caliper with rust, & they quit braking. The tell-tale sign is rusty disks because the pads dont grind them clean.
