Low Idle at Cold Start Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 05:18:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My Saab 900s, 1996, manual, is idling really low (aroud 500-600 rpm) when the engine is cold. After a while - 4-5 minutes of driving, once it warms up, it idles fine even if I shut the car off for a while. Its only when its started from cold - and its been getting colder here in montreal.
Lots of vibration (at the back) of course with an older car like this at low revs.
The check engine light is on and indicating that I should replace a pump in the enviromental system (this problem has been there for a couple years and mechanic says its not necessary). The light also indicates from time to time that I should replace my distributor - but that is just for "top" performance. I don't think either of these issues have anything to do with the idling.
In reading some of the threads it seems that I may just need an oil change - that seemed to have worked for others.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!!
