Hey All,

1999 9-3 SE 5-spd HOT 215K miles

Problem -

My symptoms are no start, but all lights, accessories work. I do not hear the fuel pump running when I turn the key. And turned all the way,
I hear it cranking, but obviously no start without fuel. The tachometer does not move for a few seconds, but then bounces up a few hundred (below 1K) and drops down to nothing. Does this mean CPS? I keep hearing tach is tell-tale sign, but not the specifics.

Does this mean it is the ignition switch, as the attempts below did not solve?

Attempts at solution -

Was able to jump the pump and hear it working, so I can rule out the new fuel pump as a culprit, correct?

Took the CPS from my 97 900 and installed it, but still does not start. This one from my 97 may be faulty, but then again, it could be good.

Background Story -

Well, my newer Saab has left me stranded again. I recently had similar problems two months ago, which turned out to be the fuel pump that was replaced. Then, two nights ago, I felt slight loss of power, like a stutter a few times, but she kept going. Came out from my men's league hockey game, and it wouldn't start. I couldn't hear the pump going, so I gave her a few whacks, thinking that maybe my new pump was the cause. Eventually, it started. Made one more stop that night, and was able to start.

Started the next morning, but wouldn't start up after a stop. Again, thought it was the pump, and some more whacks, tries, and cursing, and then it started again. This time, check engine light came on. Left for the day in the ramp at work, and started right up again, roughly 10 hours later. Stopped at hockey (coaching), and would not start after. This is where it is stranded.

I have searched lots of posts, as I have had these problems before, but trying to get some definitives before I decide to tow to shop or driveway.

Please let me know if I need to answer follow-ups. Tried to put specifics at top. Thanks!

Sean
