A "hot" plug is one that burns hotter and therefore is good for a car does a lot of around town driving or idling (like a cop car). A "cold" plug is for cars that spend a lot of time on the highway. This is pretty much geazertech stuff from when cars had carberators and points--modern cars run fine with whatever plug the manufacturer recommends.
