I apologize for my post yesterday, I am very mad at my car.
What should I do in this situation?
I brought my car to Andrews of Princeton to check out a noisy fuel pump (sounds like a boat's bilge pump) and lately the lights would slightly dim when I rev the car. they tell me it needs a new alternator, idler pulley, and battery all for $900+. This does not address the noisy, possibly failing, fuel pump.
I've already put a lot of $ into this car and am afraid that if I spend the dough on the alternator that I will have to put another $1k into the fuel pump before too long. They say the noise is not coming from the fuel pump, but rather a bad bearing in the alternator. The alternator is charging, but the battery is weak. The charging system tested far above the minimums at the 70k mile service, but that was 5k miles ago. I know the fuel pump is noisy, when I lift up the back seat it gets louder and when I open the access cover louder still.
I understand the alternators on these cars rarely fail. Should I do a new battery and pulley myself and hope the alternator makes it?
'01 9-3s 75k miles, perfectly and proactively maintained.
