An Easier job if you’re DIY

I read about a guy driving around with a Coolant alert on knowing that his header tank was at the correct level. Well, if you operate like this then one day when a leak happens you could be down many dollars.

I had an intermittent alert and decided to look into repairing the sensor. It detaches from the tank easily by prying the locking tabs with a thin bladed screwdriver. Next take a junior hacksaw or better still a jewelers hacksaw and carefully cut round the junction of the white plastic and the black plastic. The long sides you feel the blade go through but on the ends you cut slightly into a printed circuit board. When the white cover is removed it reveals a glass reed switch, You can now measure to see if the problem is the reed switch or the pins to circuit board connections. A reed switch is just a matter of cents in cost and can be soldered in and then the white cover rtv’d in place. If the problem is on the printed circuit board it could be a dry joint of the pins on the circuit board. These can be re soldered by cutting away the bump on the other end of the connector. When repaired epoxy with black epoxy to seal up the sensor.

I’ve done this to my car and I know when the coolant alert comes on it real I need to add coolant.
