Engine is toast

So, just got the call I was expecting from our indy: our 2000 9-3's engine is dead... or almost. (mileage: 100k)
We've been fighting oil problems for about the last 40-50k miles ranging from leaks to PCV replacements to concerns about sludge.
After the oil pressure light came on over the weekend, we had it towed to our indy. Today he checked the oil pressure (30-psi cold, he shut the car off when it dropped to 12.) He drained the oil and said there were lots of metal shavings in the pan. He said the oil looked like it was in terrible shape and smelled awful, like it hadn't been changed in a very very long time. It was changed with Mobil 1 0w-30 at 95k.
So, the question: what to do now? Used engine? New short block? Have this engine rebuilt? Rebuild it myself? Put new oil in and drive it to the closest dealer to trade it in?
Any bright ideas? I've been browsing people's horror stories here for several hours. Kind of depressing.
Thanks in advance.
