Well, it's time to replace batteries. This new integrated remote/key I have on the 2002 9-3 is different from the fob on the 1995 900, so I had to investigate on here how to replace the battery.
After reading some posts on here, I understood that I needed to push a round object or drill bit into the hole on the side of the key and pry up, as if I were prying the back plate off. I understood that others had trouble using a paper clip to do this.
Well, never one to be productive after 3pm at work (haha, just kidding), I decided I would try. First I tried the paperclip method--never know! Did not work. Then I poked around my office looking for something stronger than a paperclip, and I found the perfect tool--a binder clippie! Specifically, a black, medium binder clip (you know, the thing to use when a paperclip is too small). I took the binder clip apart such that I had two silver metal "wings" and one black binder thing (sorry I lack the proper vocabulary to explain this, please post if you can't follow along). A single silver wing was perfect--goes in just far enough and then is crimped such that it is easy to pry the back off. It worked on the first try for me. The hardest part is prying--it seems counter-intuitive.
Hope this works for others! Glad a little office creativity solved this dilemma for me!
