I'd be a bit turned off that the owner wasn't a bit more aware of the car and it's service. That means the service depended totally on the dealer nad them making sure the car was called in at the correct intervals. Given the sludge issues with these engines one would ideally have a car where the oil was changed BEFORE it had to be. That said, an Indy could easily tell if the car was properly maintained and in the worst case scenario, you could have the VC pulled or better yet, the oil pan.
Secondly, the owner's lack of knowledge could mean that he does not know enough to be easy on the car until it's warmed up. Using full boost on a cold engine could induce some serious wear. Some of this can be checked by physical play in the turbine and by doing a compression check on the engine.
The biggest bonus is that you've met with the original owner and it's a one owner car so you know exactly what you are up against. I would not be afraid of this car if a check by an Indy reveals no major flaws, many of which you could use to bargain down the price, at which point it comes down to price.
Best of luck..
