Length of antenna mast plastic cable?

Last year I had to replace the antenna mast on my 2000 9-3 5-door and I ordered a new mast from eeuroparts.com. It was a 3rd party mast and not OEM, and although it worked OK, the plastic cable with the teeth for the gear was apparently longer than the OEM one, so I had to trim it. (It would not retract the mast all the way before the motor stopped turning the gear.)
Unfortunately, with the original mast, the plastic cable had snapped and I had to open up the mast motor housing to get the pieces out. As a result, I was not sure how long it was supposed to be so I had to keep trimming the new one and try and guess. Afraid it would end up too short when the antenna was fully extended, I left it on the long side, but apparently it was a little too long. When the mast would retract, the motor would still run for a few seconds after the mast was fully retracted, like it was trying to spool up the excess cable. One day last week, the mast extended when I turned on the radio, but it would not retract after that. Apparently the cable snapped or the teeth are worn off at some point so the cable won't engage with the gear.
I've ordered a new antenna mast from eeuroparts (same part number), but I would like to get it right this time. Does anyone know how long the plastic cable should extend out the end of the antenna mast for the OEM mast when it is fully extended?
