Shop mechanics normally err on the side of replacing too much stuff. That's not really a bad thing...

If you have to keep returning to the shop for re-work, that damages their reputation A LOT.

If I was doing the work myself (on my own car) I'd replace the one caliper & the one hose. If it then starts leaking from the other side, I don't go crying back to the mechanic to say he didn't do something properly.

In any case, the brake pads &/or rotors should be replaced across both sisdes of the axle.
