So before the repair, the temp gauge always showed too low temp (1/3) and after the repair it is now showing correct temp (1/2)?
And now you have a heating problem when the temp gauge is showing hotter than it did before?
I would start with replacing the thermostat as a first. 84°C is a little bit on the low side if the car is up at full operating temperature.
If the cooling fan doesn't kick in until 104°C it might be that the low speed fan resistor is dead and the fan doesn't come on until hi speed.
