Well, without knowing what the real source of the sound is, one can only speculate. If the sound is more pronounced on the fuel rail than on the valve cover, you can rule out valve train issues and start to poke around external components. You may want to listen to each fuel injector and see if that's where you're actually hearing the noise. If it is your fuel injectors, their audible magnitude is dependent on how clean they are. If you suddenly noticed the sound, it could simply be that you suddenly noticed it (awareness happens unexpectedly), or you recently got some fuel that's better than what you normally buy, or maybe your driving habits have worked loose some build-up within the injectors. Of course, you could be looking at something entirely different, so I strongly encourage you to prod every square inch of that engine with that stethoscope until you're certain you know exactly where the noise is coming from.
