Honestly, I'm not concerned about the wheel balance, it's never been a problem for me. Like I said, the front end vibration has been an ongoing issue for several thousand miles with both me and the previous owner, who is a close friend of mine. The car has had three sets of tires on it since the issue was first noticed, and it's continuously gotten worse throughout those three sets; the previous owner even replaced the wheels themselves because he was told the problem was due to wheel runout. I rotate and balance my tires regularly, and put a brand new set on in the fall; the only change I've ever noticed in the front end shake is that it has progressively worsened as the car ages. I've replaced the tie rod ends and bushings, now I'm doing the control arm bushings before I get a fresh alignment. I'm not going to waste my time and money chasing a symptom of a problem when I can go directly to the cause.
The reason Saabs are so prone to wheel vibration is because of the front end bushings are weak and wear quickly; when the bushings don't really do their job any wheel balance issues are amplified. Proper bushings lead to better alignment overall and don't allow unnecessary freeplay at the moving joints. My hope for the bushings taking care of the problem is more aimed at the rear bushings on the lateral arms; I hope they aren't too worn out and part of the problem, but my understanding is that they are pretty strong and longlasting.
