well fellow saabers the seized motor phenom has bitten me. with all the saabs I've had (currently own 8) I bought a 96 SE turbo with 115K for 500 bucks that ended up needing a fuel tank and pump. Since owning, I have used syn oil every 5K religously and the car has run great.
now with 166K on her and driving from Vegas to So Cal I was coming down the mountain pass with cruise set at 75 and she started hesitating like she was starving for fuel so I peddled it a little and she responded. Well that was only good for a couple of miles and she died. No oil pressure light, or any kind of warning at all. Towed it to my buddys because it was very resistant to cranking so after removing the plugs I got it to crank no problem. Put the plugs in and she fires up no problem but with a huge rod knock that I never heard on the freeway.
I found a motor for $300 from a wrecked 97 SE turbo car at the boneyard so that's the plan. while taking out the motor, I noticed the metal crankcase hose that bolts to the turbo intake was loose, not off but loose. I wonder was this the culprit not allowing the crank to scavenge. the top end was clean. I'll follow up with any new/weird findings.
I thought I'd avoid this with routine maintenance!!!
